Hey all! I hope you have all had a wonderful & enjoyable summer. Lots of exciting news & updates about Artwark to share with you. Hope you have a moment to read this entry... I am so grateful that it has been another successful season at Artwark with an influx of custom orders and customers from new parts of the world (for Artwark) including Denmark, Japan, and Singapore :)

As the season comes to a close, I have unfortunately found out about a copycat who has been viewing my website and blog over the past some time & now has posted the combined Artwark graphics at her store in Pittsford, NY. It is sad that some people have such little artistic integrity that they must mimic others' originality to call it their own. But through the ups and downs, Artwark will overcome & I can't wait to see what the Holiday Season will bring! Save the dates: oct 2 and nov 6 for our shows in Rochester NY with on site pieces...more to come on that later.

Please, go check those out.. but if you have a minute let me tell you what has been going on with me (Sarah) and Artwark since January. My Dad was out of the country visiting relatives from Jan-March. SO, i was on house duty, taking my Mom to work, taking over tons of stuff he does & trying to keep my head over water, all the while juggling what I guess is family life! Kudos to those of you with families and children, my hats off to ya! It's tough work!! Happy late Mother's Day to all as well!!

So anyways, late in March, family visited us for a week, so i took on some more responsibilities to cook and look after them. Needless to say, Artwark suffered a bit :( since i just didn't have the time to stay on task as much. After being totally burnt out, I got sick and stayed sick for about 3 weeks and the second I felt better, I started getting back in gear for Mom's Day Sales!! Though i didn't get a chance to write here at the blog..i'm always an email away through info@artwark.com

Hey all! it has been too long since I have posted here! I hope you are all doing well today. Over in my neck of the woods, the Holiday sales were very good, I extend my appreciation to you all who support Artwark since its start. In other news, I just got back from a nice trip to Niagara Falls where I got to see my adorable little cousin who is quickly becoming a little lady & it excelling in both school and sports!! She is taking gymnastics, swimming and also Hip hop dance! super cute and boy can she do those flips!!

As for me, I'm just getting back into the groove of things and completing a nice whole collection of pieces for the upcoming Valentines day!! Have you bought anything for your loved one? I am going to be relisting the adorable Tiffany's style Be Mine heart locket necklaces in sterling silver as well as some red swarovski heart lovelies! So you will not believe what i am up to right now!! I had to face the freezing subzero temperatures this morning to give Ma a ride to work and then head over to my own Doc's appt. On the way home I went over to the Verizon store since i need a new phone. Mine is officially dead :( boohoo. Anyways, i got back to my house door and only then did i realize that i had locked myself out of the house...Oh boy! good times i tell yoU! So I ventured over here to the library so that i could check out the emails and of course write this very very late blog report!!

Gardening fun!

Hi All it has been so long since i posted something new & fun :D So today, while i was gardening, I came upon something, so i thought I just MUST share :D It was Super hot out, so I looked at the Garden of bright roses, marigolds & other perennials & watered them nicely. I noticed a small knot in the base of the hose, so after watering, I went to unravel it. And I saw something far down.... tra la la..it seemed to be saying...just merrily strolling along on the underside of the hose, not a care in the world, aside from getting refreshed from the day's heat....
upon closer inspection, i found this little guy!!

Happy Spring! Some seasonal remedies!

Hey All! it has been too long since I last posted! So i thought i would catch up with everyone today :D I am down with a flu-like virus that started as what I thought were allergies! No luck. Fever, throbbing head & terrible sinuses too :( I hope you all are keeping healthy! Thats for sure. So anyhow Ma made me a concoction beverage which of course was gross. Heres the recipe:

10 black peppercorns, 4 cloves, 3 tps honey, 1 piece of ginger and 1 cup water. Really strong stuff but it did seem to help! You boil it all together. The water turns black, I kid you not. Scary!!

Another interesting item I have found REALLY useful, (don't laugh) is Kleenex. In our house, when sick, you get to pick from toilet paper or paper towels. Guests over time always deplete our Kleenex (by in my opinion) wasting them for like one blow. I'm like HELLO make that kleenex count! Not to be gross. Anyways, PUFFS plus was on sale for .79 a box!! Woohoo with the lotion in it! YES!!

Last, I finally caved & purchased a NETI pot. They now make them in unbreakable (aka plastic) which has my name written all over it. Since I'm a klutz and a half, the porcelain kind just is NOT a good idea to be anywhere in the body. I was having anxiety attacks picturing broken shards of porcelain going up my nose into my brain. SHARP glass. (one of my wacky fears is glass injurys. odd.)

Anyways, it helps a LOT so I would recommend all of these + homemade chicken soup. That plus netflix instant online movies can make being sick a little more tolerable. Especially since I seem to have also lost my voice along the way. Anyways!!! I'm off to recuperate some more!! Lots of love to you & yours & hoping to feel much better soon! I'm hoping to get back into regular blogging & am currently waiting for some new jewelry purchases of my own to show off along with the creators of them!!

It has been a blessfully busy month! Between Holidays sales & the Holiday show, I am due for a few days off :D But til then, I wanted to give you a sneak peek at my pieces in real life :D 2 Weeks ago, I was lucky enough to get a spot in one of my favorite shows, The Buffalo Indie Market :D There were over 30 handmade artisans with their wares.

This is my setup for the show :D I also had a special section for my bird necklaces. A bit messy, but the show was so busy, I only had a few free moments here & there to snap photos.

I also had my Earring tree!! I love to make things festive, so every decoration on the tree was a pair of earrings for $10, & some I just gave away to customers that spend $60 or more as a Holidays treat!

This is the lovely Kelly (at left) one of my regular customers who showed up wearing my UNDER THE LOTUS necklace, you can get one too HERE. She purchased several pieces including the Pink Quartz mini-me necklace & Let it snow necklace. I received this mini mannequin as a birthday gift, paired with my mini mirror, it looked right at home with the rest of the display. In such a rush, I love to use my boxes as part of the display too, they look great & stack nicely for a unique look.

At the tail end of the show, when others started packing up, I gave it an extra few minutes. Lo & behold, the cutest couple ever, parents of Indie Market founder, Mary~ perched over my table, for Christmas shopping :D I had to take a quick snapshot because they just looked super cute :D I love the light between them! They purchased A tree of wisdom with green tourmaline necklace.

All in all the show was a success, & i was able to catch up with the crowd in Buffalo NY. I can't to see them again @ a new location for Valentines.

Last month i discovered why the whole world has gone nuts for the 'Twilight' Saga. My mom's friend's rave reviews, plus the enticing trailer for New Moon piqued my interest, as it seemed the series has hit all different age groups. Hence began my curiousity. I rented the first Twilight movie twice & watched it 7 times. And plan to see New Moon this coming weekend. Of course, no obsession is complete without a photo collage in my world :D 1) Pure Heart is one Angel wing necklace that I have been selling since August in my Men's collection for a low $18. I just loved the look of the stamping & it so reminds me of 2) one of my favorite scenes in Twilight. Edward is fighting his desire for Bella & I loved the symbolism of the wings behind him. 3) My New Moon necklace is a new pieces & I made only one. I found some amazing mother of Pearls, both the circle and the star, & love how it turned out. 4)This gorgeous necklace called Freedom Flyer is by a great Etsy artisan. I just purchased one & Franky, the artist was kind enough to ship the same day so I could have it this weekend! I can't wait to see it! I feel like it looks so much like that scene, I just had to have one. 4) The new Moon poster looks so mysterious and wonderful can't wait to see it!!

Healthy Indulgence-recipe Sundae Waffles

I am on the road to losing some extra weight I put on after college about 2 years back. In september I started. After a 4 day cleanse of 1,200 calories a day and then eating 1,600 cals per day...i lost some pounds and began a workout regimen. Simple and asy. But, I started to fall into some old patterns around day 42. SO i got back on track, did the 4 day jumpstart again and lost another 3 pounds last week. I decided I'm going to have a new goal of getting around 1,200 calories a day. At a 5' frame, that is about how much I'm supposed to be consuming anyways.

Well, if you are like me, you love sweets and indulging in tasty foods. After some searching and studying all different diets, I came up with some of my own recipes that are low in calorie and really satistying foods.

Sundae Waffles.

1 Kashi whole grain round waffle
1/4 Banana sliced
15 pieces of semi sweet (dark) chocolate
1 tsp. natural peanut butter
1 tsp skim milk

To do: combine the chocolate chips, peanut butter and milk and melt in the microwave or stovetop. In the microwave, set to 20 seconds...keep adding another 10 seconds until the chocolate is soft enough to stir. Stir the combination together. Toast Waffle and top with chocolate mixture and top with bananas. YUM!

Serves one. 240 calories. (if this is for breakfast, you can double the recipe for 2 waffles.)

New Series! Global Fashion: First stop India!

title: GLOBAL FASHION. First stop~India!

Hi there! I decided to start a new series each month at the blog where we will take a look at one interesting outfit from another country and discuss it. Since I am of Bangladeshi heritage I wanted to begin with a review of Churidar, from close by India. Pronounced CHOO*REE*DAR, this lovely ensemble is modern and alluring, yet traditional and conservative. The ancient style was once worn only by Mogul Royalty, but eventually became widespread and popular around the subcontinental area.

Churidar combines tight fitting, long pants with a long kameez (top) anf scarf (orna).The bottom of the pants fit snugly around the ankle with the extra length falling in layers like a ripple effect. Outlining the shape of the lower leg, this attire is considered chic and sexy~ compared to other traditional outfits which cover the legs with wide trousers, or sari's skirt-like bottom.

Kameez (top) worn in Churidar varies in length~ reaching the shin, knee or thigh. Slits along the sides are optional for comfort, and add intrigue without showing an inch of skin. The final detail is a long scarf (orna) that usually matches a vibrantly detailed top, while the pants are simple and often without decoration. Color palettes, patterns and designs are infinite, and you will never see the same outfit anywhere, even in the same store.

Churidar can be made of cotton, satin, georgette or the finest silk covered in embroidery, sequins, glitter, gemstones, wood and even mini mirrors cut into different shapes. Amazingly most of these works are the most intricate artistry I have ever seen and most adorments are done individually by hand. Don't you just love how everone in India 'buys handmade' so often? :D In a nation that is scented with tradition Churidar is by far one of my favorite overlooked treaures and I hope that you enjoyed learning about it!

Well Wishes Interview: fighting against the Global Water Crisis

A few months ago, my friend told me about a group she began and with the help of the local Mosque, youth and friends has maintainted. It is the Well Wishes Foundation, spreading awareness and raising money to provide water for people in the most impoverished parts of the world. I wanted to share this story with you...

Founder, Subia attends college and first heard about the Global Water crisis in a class she was taking. She immediately wanted to somehow help. She says, "The idea that every 15 seconds a child dies from lack of water really moved me" "I couldn't believe it." And so the project commenced. She contacted local affiliations and started a collaborative effort with the existing groups, Global Giving and Hidaya. All the funds raised by WELL WISHES goes directly to those groups. They in turn use the money directly to create water wells for different villages that have no source of clean water.

Through the process, Subia gathered local youth and friends interested in the cause who contacted community members and posted signs around town about the group to spread awareness. Word quickly moved and the WELL WISHES story was covered by the local media which you can see HERE. The striking thing is that as people become more aware, almost everyone wants to take part and help! Such is humanity.

After hearing about the group, I was shocked at the reality that so many people lacked such a BASIC thing. I wanted to help in the way I know best: through Art. I created the A drop of Water Earrings that resemble precious drops of water. You can see them HERE. They are only $20 a pair and 100% of proceeds from them go directly to WELL WISHES. So far, 10 pairs have sold, enough to make one entire well to provide water for an entire village...because....

Each well costs only $200 to create~ WELL WISHES' goal in July was to raise $10,000. Wednesday Wishlist...your wish is my command!! NOW MAKING custom initial charms!

Hey All!! For a while I have been receiving numerous requests to create handstamped initial jewelry. While I was buying some ready stamped items, NOW I AM READY TO CREATE MY OWN HANDSTAMPED PIECES!... last month I was hanging out with Abbu..my Dad in his garage, he was all thrilled to show me all kinds of interesting new tools and other 'fun' items cluttering up the garage walls that only Dad's hail as fun :D Anyhow, it was time VERY well spent! Because as I was going back into the house, Abbu gave me a present: his METAL TOOLING KIT! To those of you who do not know what that is, to create custom initial Jewelry, you need to have a metal tooling kit: a set of metal chisel like pieces with a letter at the tip of each. These are used to 'stamp' the letters one at a time onto metal charms by a process of hammering. Since I already had a hammer and anvil, I was set!!

This weekend, my friend Sameera was telling me she wanted to buy some Initial necklaces for her neices and it was the perfect chance for me to try out the kit! Here are a few examples of what I can do now :D I can make small initial Charm pendants for you!! So far, these are the ones I have created. Want one? I like to stamp on vintagey looking antique gold coins, thick, sterling silver Hill Tribe charms and chunky 24K Gold vermeil charms (which is heavy Gold plating over sterling silver) My style is rugged stamping~varied from piece to piece a bold! I would love to hear feedback on what you think so be sure to leave a comment! Pakora Recipe-Indian Onion fritters with a Kick!!

Hey All! I am so exhausted from this past week i JUST got up! And i am not one to sleep in...I could even sleep some more! Anywho, for today's surprise post I wanted to share a fun recipe that is just delicios! The Pakora is a snack eaten during special times like the breaking of the fast each night of Ramadan~I have become the official preparer of the fast breaking goodies in my parents home and have been making these almost every evening...So i thought I would share the recipe with you!! Ingredients:
1) Gram Flous (Gluten FREE!! So this is awesome for any parties you may host)
2) 1 Large onion
3) Olive oil
4) Hot green chilies if you like
5) 1 tsp Salt,
6)1/2 tps pepper,
7) 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper,
8) 1/2 tsp herbs de provence,
9) 1/4 tsp garam masala (from your local Indian Grocery spice section)

To do:
1) Peel and cut onions. You want small, chopped pieces like what you would use in a salsa or tuna salad.

2)Chop chilies

3) Combine about 1.5 cup gram flour with water and whisk together. You want a slightly thick consistency that is not goopy but more like a very very thin batter.

4) Add spices and whisk well

5) Add in all the onions and chilies. There should be a lot of the vegetable mixture and just a little extra of the liquid mix

6) Heat a small frying pan with 2 inches of oil

7) When it is hot oil, take a serving spoon to measure out small amounts of the mix and fry. Turn and fry other side until both sides are a light brown gold color (if you want to see it's done, while in the pan, you can poke holes with a fork and slightly press down with the spatula...if there is no liquid coming out, it is done!)

8) use a slotted spoon to put into a colander that is line with paper towels to drain oil

9) repeat until all the mix is used up!

10)VOILA! Serve with ketchup :)

Serves 4.

As many know, it is the Holy month of Ramadan for Muslims :D A month of discipline, helping others, and being empathatic to those less fortunate. These items related to this time for us. The necklace and headscarf are handmade by Artisans, while Henna, Dates and this book can be found locally near you! I recently had the most delicious Date-Fruit that my friend brought back from Libya a few days prior. I have never eaten something so naturally sweet! You can buy them at nearby Middle eastern or Indian grocery stores for the somewhat dryer versions...they last forever!

Henna is a temporary tattoo that is applied as a mud and last a few weeks. We wear it during Holidays including Eid: the celebration after Ramadan. A Hijab or headscarf is worn by many Muslim women in various styles and cloths. It must be worn during prayer the one shown here is handmade and just lovely! If anyone wants to get me an Eid gift...this necklace will do :D And last, if you want a really meaningful read, try this book out! It was written by a Woman who i met many times and chatted with some years back. Awista is a talented writer who founded a great program for Afghani girls to come to the USA and... play soccer to build confidence and safety from a war torn nation. Hey All! Happy monday :) So here is the interview i promised of from Annie's Powder Room, a handmade soap shop that is too cute for words! And yes, these are SOAPS, adorable, want-to-eat-them-they're-so-cute-soaps! Some of my favorites at Annie's Powder Room~ An Etsy Shop.

Artwark: I tumbled onto your shop while searching for nautical themed articles and i LOVE your shop! You soap scultures are so cute I would have a hard time actually using them!! Are they for use or decoration?

APR: I actually get this alot. I always say... "It's soap! Use it and come back for more

Artwark: :) They are so cute :D How long have you been making soap? What got you into it?

Crystal: Well thanks! I've been making soap for about 6 years now. My husband had just started his own business when my first daughter was born and it was a disaster from the very begining! That business was a MONEY PIT! We needed money bad and I really felt the need to help out but I did NOT want to get a job and leave my baby. So I started looking for things that I could do from home. I tried alot of things but when I tried my hand at soap making I was hooked! Back then it was just extra cash around the holidays but today its putting my husband through nursing school and my kids through sewing lessons! The whole family pitches in on some aspect of the business and we have so much fun with it! I think I may have three of the smallest soap makers on the planet!

Artwark: That is very inspiring!! Do you also sell your soaps in stores? How do you market your products successfully?

APR: I have gotten alot of wholesale accounts through Etsy! As of right now you can find my soaps in several states across America, in Germany, Austrailia and Japan...and counting ;) I also have my soaps in alot of little shops around my area.
I don't really do alot of promoting or advertising. Etsy has kept me really busy that I am afraid to promote too much because I don't want to get too busy. I homeschool our three little girls so thats priority number 1! I do teach a soap class at a little art studio by my house. My local business has really picked up since I started doing that and I have started working with alot of brides in my area. (soap makes great wedding favors!)

Artwark: Thats wonderful! Congratulations on all of your success :D! I really don't know anything about soap making...what is the process? Do you sculpt them or use molds??

Also~ as your business is booming, What do you see for the future of your soap business down the road?

APR: Thank you! Well...because my kids help out so much I've switch over to the M&P method. I've found a really good base that I like and I just melt that down and scent and color it. It's alot less involved than cold process but it allows me to stretch my creative muscle a bit more and its alot safer for the kids! My booger soaps are hand sculpted but for everything else I use molds...I really think thats the most important part...knowing a good mold when you see one. My dad is actually getting into mold making so once he gets good at it I've got a long list of ideas he has to work on :)

The future looks bright from here! I've always said that I'm gonna keep it small time while my kids are young so I can homeschool them and just hang out with them but when they get older I wouldn't be suprised if this was a full time family business complete with our own little shop...with dad brought in as the full time mold maker :)
When you ask my kids what they want to be when they get older their responce is "A Soapmaker!" I love that!

Artwark: Very cool :D Thanks and Im guessing you are Annie? or is that a shop name?

What state are you in? Do you think your location has helped your success? Any tips for other Etsy sellers??

APR: No- my name is actually Crystal. Annie is my middle daughter. My husband and I have a habit of naming our businesses after our children :)
I am located in Fort Worth, Texas also known as cowtown and I don't really think location has a made a huge difference for me. My number one tip for etsy sellers is to start with a good foundation! Don't jump in and try to get real big before doing your ground-work. Get all the business stuff taken care of, (the books, taxes, logo design, budget...all that good stuff) and then get a business plan. It doesn't have to be anythig super formal just a few business goals and how you plan to achieve them is a good place to start. And...if possible...DON'T get in debt!!! Oh and most important...HAVE FUN!!!

Be sure to stop by Annie's Etsy shop for sweet scented treats..and they are SO cute, make sure you don't eat them! I know i want to!!

Makeup tutorial: Eyes Smoky vs. Bright

Hey All! The interview planned for today will be posted next week due to an unforseen issue. However, today, I thought i would give a fun and easy little tutorial for eye makeup. Summer nights are coming to an end, here are 2 different dramatic looks that are easy to acheive. Smoky eyes and Circus couture (pale brights) The looks here use Rimmel mascaras, and 3 different eyeshadow palettes my Lancome, Mark and Avon. really affordable and gorgeous night looks!!

1) Smoky Eyes
2) Circus Couture Brights

SMOKY LOOK
1) For Smoky eyes, begin by applying a concealer to hide undereye circles. Then Apply over the eyelid to serve as a base. (I used Physicians formula mineral powder as a concealer, it's light and airy and stays put all day)
2)Use a pale, shimmery shadow and apply under the highest point of the eyebrow and the inner corner of the eye to highlight. (i used Lancome Honeymoon shadow)
3) Next apply a darker brown shadow over the entire lid (shown here Color focus shadow in Couture/Intense by Lancome)
4)Add a very dark shadow into the crease of the eye. I used a black shadow with a little shimmer (Femme four quad~Sassy by Mark
5) Next Apply a dark eye liner on top and bottom lids with feathery strokes (Avon Glimmerstick in Black)
6) Finish with 2 coats of black Mascara (Rimmel GLAM eyes)

BRIGHTS
1) Follow steps 1 and 2 from above (for the highlight, I used Avon shimmer and glow pearls in Pink shimmer)
2) Find pale, opaque brights that are subtle but provide a pop of color. Shown here in my FAVORITE duo~ AVON true color in French Riviera
3)Apply the greenish to from the inner corner to the half point of the eyelid and also just on the inner corner of the bottom lid. Smidge ONLY bottom lid Apply with the fingertip for intense color. Next apply the blue shade from the midpoint to outer corner of top lid.
4) Apply a dark shade of purple or navy blue to the crease (i like MARK palette femme 4 which has both shades Sensous and Voluptuous)
5) Apply Mascara to the Top lashes (for more drama, apply to bottom also.I like Rimmel Exact Definition)

As the summer begins to wind down and weather has been going up, i thought the most appropriate kind of outfit would be bold and summery but very simple. I think that idea is conveyed really well in a dress by one of my favorite ETSY dress designers. This gorgeous yellow silk charmeuse dress is so light and airy but the dramatic color make the piece rather dramatic. While i struggled to find the right jewelry for this dress, I realized that virtually anything would go with this lovely find, creating red-carpet glamour to simple evening attire for a date. So the earrings have a refreshing aqua teal pop and the silver in them pair well with the silver gladiator sandals.

I think this dress would also be stunning all dressed up, or rocked out with a black bolero top. The possibilities are truly endless and it is something that could be worn again and again during summer, fall, and spring seasons.

This is my version of an anytime outfit. With Simple, clean lines and classic vibes. A little pop of color with the funky red shoe adds a bit of sass making it perfect for a saturday night style...out to dinner, a movie or even as daywear with the girls. I like the surreal glow of the bangles~in sterling silver they are made to last..perfect! This look would be appropriate for most work places as well. The wrap top is professional looking and the dark wash in the denim takes the jean from casual to casual-office wear. Nice!! Catching up :D

Mornin all! This was another fantastic weekend! Aside from my dizzy spells, it was so much fun! :D The past month has been great! Lots of friends visiting and get togethers :D Fridays was Ma's dinner party and i got to wear a great Indian style outfit like this one
It was an aqua color and I paired it with some Solid gold earrings :D From my Mom's wedding collection. It was lots of fun! My Bengali friend is having a baby in a few months and she looked so cute!

Saturday I went to a gemshow and bought some stunning peridot and apatite in different shapes and sizes...and sunday was packed full of fun with a festival in the morning and graduation party in the evening. I made my friend some of these earrings for her gift :D

Wednesday Wishlist: Music makes the World go 'Round!!

Music is such a blessing! It can turn a bad mood into a good mood, create ambience, romance, excitement or calming effect :D This is a little tribute to music in the form of all kinds of artisan created pieces! I have always been a huge fan of all kinds of music and also majored in Music for a year in college. A little know fact is that i also made a demo CD and at the last second, put it on hold to pursue other things...needless to say, these items particularly struck a chord with me, so to say...i hope you enjoy!

The sterling silver guitar pick is stamped with letters of choice, a great gift item! The Drum is made by hand and is a great way to relax. The most unique item i think is the microphone lamp! It is a recycled vintage mic that has been remade into a working lamp! It reminds me of being in the studio :D

Creating Curls!

Go from straight to curly in a snap!
Summer calls for wavy, girly hair! This is a style i have been doing for years: pin curls! To do:

1.) Wash hair, shampoo and condition normally

2.) Brush out wet hair and apply one pump of frizz fighting serum, (i like Paul mitchell's skinny serum) then apply a quarter size blob of curl cream like CURLS ROCK Be sure that the cream has a bit of a sticky consistency which will help keep the curls together.

NOTE: to apply these products correctly pump into the palm of your hand and then smooth over the entire hand surface. When you apply it to the hair itself, use only your fingers going from end to root...there will be product on the palms of your hands which you can smooth over the rest of your hands when needed, so you are applying the product to the hair in small amounts to coat the hair, but never over-saturate (we want to avoid sticky and product heavy hair)

3)Take small 1 inch section of hair and smooth out with a fine comb

4) Twirl around your finger from end to root and secure with a bobby pin or small claw clip

5) Repeat until all the hair is clipped up to the scalp. Let it air dry as long as possible (3 hours will be gorgeous! But whatever time you have is ok)

6)If the hair is still damp when you need to take it down, Blow dry the hair while still in clips carefully, without mussing hair

7) Take out curls and separate each curl once time with fingers

8) VOILA!!

9)Pull pieces back and clip back for a casual, earthy look!

In India's Bollywood created the most movies per year IN THE WORLD :D The term Bollywood has now taken on it's own meanings, one of which is the bright color palette of citrus colors! My parents, hail from Bangladesh, and Mom was born in what is now part of India...so of course i was raised in a bright and lovely hued environment :D I just love these items and I hope you do too :D ALL HANDMADE by Etsy artisans :D

Summer products must haves!

Morning all!! Here is my surprise post :D A list of easy, locally available sumer beauty picks. These are really basic items and can all be purchased at your local drugstore or shopping center :D Affordable goodies! Mango Body butter from the BODY SHOP. I love the smell!! So summery! If it's too greasy for your taste, apply to wet skin right after showering. Use just a little over large areas of skin. $10. Essie Nail polish sampler. These are awesome on toes and finger with pops of colors! I love the small bottles since these are seasonal colors, after a few years you will use them up, rather then having large bottles cluttering up the nail polish box. $17 for all 4. Lancome definicils mascara. I usually bend the tip of the applicator for long, lush lashes. It works great, washes off easily and is literally the only makeup you need in your purse during the summertime. Nice for the beach and casual days. $25. Kiss my face Pathouli Roll-on. Paraben free and natural, The musky, sexy scent is really seasonally appropriate for the outdoors. Its natural and earthy. $6. I also recently started using the Aveeno positively radiant facewash. Its GREAT! It has tiny golden flecks to illuminate skin and washed without drying me out. I have noticed a difference which is impressive on my utterly-picky skin! $7. These are some of my fave items and i feel like they are some bare essentials to have around in the busy and heated summer months!! ENJOY!

My latest artisan fave is Kate, a talented Jewelry artisan from California. Read on for her interview and a glimpse of some her fabulous pieces... All of these pieces are available at Kate's website! Kate handmakes each piece by making wax molds and casting in Silver and gold! 100% handmade! I just love the quirky ideas behind each piece like the nuts for you necklace and the cheery-o pendants! I just placed an order for a fun flake necklace and can't wait to see it!

Q:) I really love how your shop has the feminine/tough dual identity going one. Tell me about it....
A:) I've always been really into the girl power thing and challenging that "glass ceiling" concept. My connection with this goes way back to high school when I played Julius Caesar in Shakespeare's play and dubbed myself "Juliet Caesar." With my hardware inspired pieces I am definitely blurring the line and taking elements that are normally hard, industrial and masculine and feminizing them by making them ornamental, pretty accessories. I think that we all have the opportunity to make a meaningful or fun statement with our personal adornments.

Q:)when did you get into making jewelry/metalsmithing?
A:)...when I was in college at Loyola Marymount University, I took a jewelry/metalsmithing class as an art elective with a talented jeweler(Sue Dorman) and I really liked it. I soon started making my own pieces that people kept complimenting, thus, I decided to continue my study by taking the advanced jewelry making class in conjunction with starting my own jewelry line. I figured it would be the perfect part-time job that would compliment my acting career and other endeavors. My line started out with more pre-made beaded elements but I quickly decided to take the next step towards making all my original beads, pendants, etc. so that my pieces could be truly original.

Q:) Tell me more about your life as an actress...I noticed that some celebrities/models wear your jewelry from the photos in your listing...

A:)My life as an actress in Los Angeles is definitely a roller coaster ride, but I can thankfully call myself a "working actress." I've been acting, and studying acting, since high school, as well as minoring in theatre in college. I have worked fairly consistently for a few years now with roles on Entourage and various independent and studio movies, tv shows, etc. Most of my current friends I met through working on different projects and in acting class, and lucky for me, many of them are stunning ladies who like my jewelry and support my business by posing as jewelry models! So yes, I believe on Etsy the pictures that you see are of Debi Mazar, Rachel Specter and Natalie Distler... as well as some of me and my little sister Tess.

Q:) What is something really weird about you :) a hobby or whatever..

A:)Hm, I think I'm overall a weird person, which may or may not reflect in my designs. I actually pride myself on being quirky and a bit "off," I think it makes life more fun. But one thing I guess would be spawned from my Waldorfian education. I went to a Waldorf school from kindergarden through twelfth grade and I wasn't allowed to watch tv until high school. We also were encouraged to be hyper creative and talk to the fairies and gnomes. I still believe in fairies, and ghosts! Next hobby I want to work on my psychic abilities, I guess that's pretty weird.

Q:)If you could go anywhere in the universe, what would be your destination pick and why!!

A:) Wow, that's a toughie. I feel as though my current answer to that has to be an earthly destination since I'm still young and haven't explored enough of our planet to justify wanting to go elsewhere. So, right now, I'd probably go to a tropical rainforest somewhere. I know most life species and natural medicines are discovered there and I think it would be an enriching, exciting and oxygen-filled adventure.

Q:)Who is your hero and why

A:)I have many, but probably my little sister Tess. Even though she is 6 and a half years younger than me she is an inspiration to me with her intelligence, strength and wisdom. We have been through a lot together and are incredibly close siblings. She is definitely an old soul, but sometimes a pain in the you-know-what!

Q:)I have to ask from our previous convo, What is A Waldorfian School??
A:) Waldorf school is based on a philosophy of education thought up by a man named Rudolf Steiner. There are many layers, but essentially it's about encouraging the natural creativity that all children have and letting them learn everything through more interactive and creative means as to make it more personal for each individual. I always give the example that we never had text books; that we instead, made our own. The teacher would tell us a story about, let's say, a historical event, then we would write it down in our own words in a blank paged book along with colorful picture interpretations of how we imagined the story. It really is about cultivating your individual expression and a great way to learn anything. I'm very thankful to be a Waldorfian alumni.

Saturday night style!

I have been drooling over these pieces for awhile! The combination is very 'Miami' or Caribbean cool... the focal of the outfit is the Josie Knot Dress by "Stuff By Kate" this pop of color would look fabulous with any skin tone, and i love how all the shaping and ruching flatters any body type...it's great to go out and has a fantastic gold halter neck..

while the listing is for a dress, I just love how it looks with these skinny leg jeans the stark white is gorgeous with the top and simple, Lilly Pulitzer white sandals FYI: continuation of color down the leg gives the appearance of one lone line=longer legs! I feel like jewelry should be minimal but really sharp...check out these gorgeous Gold vermeil bangles and rings created by my Etsy pal, Kate who has an amazing website too!

Last for a polished finishing touch is the French manicure with a twist! (this is a photo of my hands, with natural nails, painted) stark white polish finished with a skinny streak of metallic silver. I think it would look awesome with the hand jewelry and pick up the white in the outfit as well :D Hope you likey :)

Save a $$ Buck! On your hairstyle!

Every so often, I write a little bit about saving money. When budgets are tight, there are so many ways to really get our money's worth on everyday things. Now like most women, I love to be in style, and frankly, I pride myself on doing so without spending a fortune. One area that is really hard to spend less is on hairstyles. It is true that there is nothing like walking out of the salon with a cutting edge look. However, the way to save a bundle is something I just did today and realized it may help some of you save $$ too.

I have a regular stylist at an upscale salon. He does wonders on my coif and has taken me from long pocahantas hair to a short bob, to blunt bangs, to highlights, what i call my 'signature stripe' as well as my current inverted bob...i just gave up my blonde highlights today (i have black hair) so...you can say i love to change up my style....anyhow, my 'bob' grew out and my roots were getting too obvious, so....

i went to my local supercuts salon and sat down with a stylist of Asian descent with blonde hair...i knew she would understand what i wanted. I have been sick, so i requested she not wet my hair. After 2 tries, she cut it just the way i wanted. Next stop, drug store. Once there, I chose a few colors i liked and held them up to my face while looking in a mirror..they have em riiight next to the hair color NICE! Anyways, I purchased a bottle for $9 and voila!! (aside from the small anxiety i encountered from the TERRIBLE smell of the color) all was well. But i go throught that whenever i color it at home...im sensitive like that :D

The outcome looks great! The cut and color are lovely and chic. I now have deep auburn brown peeking out from jet black hair. Its still summer, but without that fake look of black/blonde combo. Price tag: $25

Summary: I would never give up my main stylist, but since it costs $105 for cut and color, I only go there 2-3 times a year..i never to both at once usually a cut $45 or color $60 at one sitting. By going to the local supercuts or drugstore throughout the rest of the year, it saves at least $300 per year~i only do highlights once in a while.... i hope this is of use to some of ya!! be sure to stop back friday for sat. night styling!

This is such a fun and delightful combination of lovelies :D Nice work to all the Etsy artisans behind these crafts! I love the detail of the damask and filigree work, with swirls and loops! The chalkboard is an incredibly clever way to revamp a frame and so unexpected too! Great way to leave reminders for members of your home in a classy way! Glazed Chicken and Stuffed Eggplant~Hi protein summer recipe!

Hey All! I hope you had a wonderful July 4th! We did a picnic at the lake and saw lovely fireworks over the water. We were blessed with family, friends and a full moon which made the fireworks really beautiful! We pre-made all of our picnic food during the day, so i thought i would share a few of my recipes today~ Glazed Chicken and Stuffed eggplant.

1) Glazed chicken:

Ingredients:
4 skinless full chicken leg quarters (this includes the leg attached to thigh, or your choice of chicken pieces)
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar,
1/2 cup natural honey,
1 teaspoon of herbs de provence ( if you can't find the blend, make your own: rosemary, oregano, basil, parley, onion powder)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper,
1 teaspoon chopped & dried garlic

To do: Line a baking tray with foil and preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place chicken in large bowl. Combine the vinegar and honey and whisk until the texture is liquid. Add in all other ingredients and whisk together. Apply most of mixture to chicken. Set aside a little bit of the marinade for basting later. Marinate for a few hours if possible. Arrange chicken pieces on tray, leaving a bit of space between each piece of chicken. Bake for 20 minutes uncovered. Occassionally spoon the sauce in the tray over the chicken to moisten. Apply leftover marinade when needed. After 20 minutes, turn the chicken pieces over and bake another 20-30 minutes. Voila!! When it cools a bit, put chicken in serving dish. Some of the marinade will have collected in the baking pan-pour it over the chicken and serve. Serves 6-8

Stuffed Eggplants: ingredients:
about 12 mini eggplants. You can find this at your local Asian, Indian or Middle Eastern Grocery Store. They are about 4 inches long with a deep purple coloring.
1 cup breadcrumbs
3/4 cup pine nuts
2/3 teaspoon each of paprika, salt, black pepper, herbs de provence (if you cant find this, read ingredients in the chicken recipe above), chopped and dried garlic, onion powder
a pinch of sugar
a dash of cayenne pepper, or more if desired
1/4 teaspoon dried parsley
Olive oil
(optional: 1/4 cup dried parmesan cheese)

To do: rinse and pat try eggplants. Leave the stems on. While leaving the whole of the bodies intact, cut from the fat end towards the stem-deep wise. Cut again so that you and X cut. (tip: IF you continued to cut to the stem, you would have 4 wedges, but this recipe calls for leaving it intact, just for a visual of the cutting) Rub the eggplants with olive oil, both on the surface, and in side. Place the eggplants on a foil lined baking tray and pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.

stuffing: Mirowave the pine nuts for about 40 seconds. They will become rather supple. Put nuts in a plastic sandwich back and lightly chop with a large chef knife. They will tend to get mushed, which is ok, but be sure to go lightly so there is a combination of chopped and mashed nuts.

Combine the pinenuts with the remainder of ingredients (not the eggplants though!) in a small bowl and mix thoroughly. Use a tablespoon and stuff the eggplants one at a time. Please note that because they are cut in X shapes, choose one SLANT to stuff. The x shape allows for the eggplant to keep its nice shape even after baking but you need only stuff it in one cross section.

Bake for 29-35 minutes, depending on your preference of texture. I did about 30 minutes which makes the inside of the eggplant soft with a slightly firm skin. Voila!! No forks needed! You can bite the eggplant by holding the stems!! Serves 8

This is a really fun meal to make and follows the High protein lifestyle. You will get protein from the chicken and pine nuts and antioxidants from the eggplants. Follow up with Cold water and Enjoy!!

**FYI: Interesting eggplant tidbit. I recently read in an article that Eggplant contains a nutrient that builds muscle faster than known steroids! Bodybuilders are now taking doses of an extract from eggplant which should in effect, DECREASE the use of steriods!! Apparently, the nutrient helps in the repair of muscle tissue: when we work out, micro tears occur in the muscles, the repair of these tears produce additional new muscle mass: this extract heals those tiny very quickly resulting in rapid muscle growth!!! WOOOO EGGPLANTS!!

Celebrity Tribute-Rest in Peace ~Michael Jackson, Ed McMahon

It was a sad week in that several favorite celebrities passed away..Ed McMahon, Farah Fawcett and the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. I wanted to write a little tribute to them this week with prayers with their families at this time.

I feel like it is the end of an era. Ed McMahon as many of you remember hosted the popular show, Starsearch. Aside from being one of my favorite childhood TV shows, Many stars of today becan their careers as contestants on star search! Names you may know including Christina Aquilera, Aaliyah, Destiny's Child, Drew Carey, Dave Chappelle, Rosie O'donnell, Leann Rhimes, Jessica Simpson, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Simpson to name just a few. It was the time of good clean T.V. and a show that my family and I enjoyed very, very much. Popular shows of today like American Idol, So you think you can dance and last comic Standing are all direct results of Star Search taking the contest to a different level by separating categories. Ed McMahon was the funny, relaxed Host of the Show who was never offensive and always a pleasure to watch!

MICHAEL JACKSON will be missed by the entire world, his legacy career spanning 4 generations. At the tragic news, my father, who is early 60 teared up a bit upset that he had never seen Jackson in person. My colleague in her 40's claimed it was her generation that 'grew up with him' while my friends and I in our 20's felt it was us who grew up on his music during the early 1990's albums. And so it goes, a man who was so often misunderstood.

Although there was some controversy around the mysterious Jackson, I always have had a very soft spot for him. One can speculate frame ups etc, due to his high profile, etc, but that is another story. Michael's amazing performances and robust stage persona were so different from his live interviews. It seemed like all of his close friends were extremely protective of him, giving me the sense that his interview persona~that of a shy, childish, almost effeminate individual was the true him. He was forever a child, and I don't think he every truly 'fit' into this world...i recall an interview when he was so excited that he had purchased something for his mother, and the reporter, who was fixated on the hefty price of the item was twisting facts openly, winking at the camera and manipulating statements to make Jackson seem like a money wasting person. Over the years, it is a fact that many, many of us grew up on Michael Jackson, and in many ways broke huge barriers.

Black or White, closed a gap in extend ot racial boundaries showing people of all races coming together to unite. Heal the world had a focus on helping youngsters. With all of this unity-thought, I dare say that the work of Michael Jackson greatly contributed to the fact that we are blessed with such an intelligent president today- it is in fact our generation who heavily voted for the first time in decades that pushed the vote, not to mention, out generation who reaped many benefits of Jackson's wish for global unity. He will be sorely missed and I hope that he is in a better place now, away from the scrutiny of the nasty public eye, tabloids and exploits that helped to detriorate his sense of self.

Whether it be fashion sense, music or helping a larger cause, Michael Jackson will be be missed by so many.

Rest in Peace to all lost.

This week's Saturday style is a creamy, dreamy combination. Summertime calls for picnics and the outdoors, and I just love the idea of woodlands theme and summer. So, feast your eyes on an outfit nostalgic of a time long ago, when running through the fields with bare feet and lacy attire was a perfect way to spend the afternoon. The idea for this combination is centered around the Barefoot in the Garden dress with its silk and lace layers. So romantic and breezy! With this kind of dress, the perfect adornment is a crisp, white parasol a detailed, feminine pattern is crocheted together with a wooden stick handle. I just love it! Artisan vignette: Frieda Sophie

A few weeks ago, while perusing the internet, I came across the most lovely shop! FriedaSophie, offers jewelry with vibrant colored gems and finely selected metal. Sandra, designer and owner of the shop is super friendly too and one of my new 'etsy pals.' She is super interesting and very nice. I can't wait to get some of her jewelry! Shown here is Sandra with her adorable cat!!

Q: So, tell me a bit about you, where are from, hobbies, etc....
A: My name is Sandra and I was born in Hamburg, Germany. I traveled a bit around Europe, but after coming to San Francisco, i fell completely in love with it and
just had to stay, so i moved here in 1995. I was a naturopathic doctor in germany I further studied chinese medicine and acupuncture here in SF for the past 10 years... have been a painter, sewer, photographer and dancer since age 5. I also restore vintage vehicles (karmann ghia's -and love vintage cloth, especially polka dot dresses :)

Artwork has always been my happy place to escape to from daily routine work. In January i started making jewelry for myself which quickly turned into making pieces for my friends and their friends and than i got asked to make a dozen pieces for a local designer store, which led me to opening my etsy store friedasophie, named after my 2 grandmothers, which have been my artistic inspiration

Q: Very cool!! I love your color combos in your jewelry! Its so vibrant and reminds me of India~the Sarees, and bold colors, What inspires you to create these palettes?
A: Life, friends, family and my husband. I am blessed with a husband that has a strong design sense and gives me feedback on my pieces. My grandmother inspired me from from early childhood. She used to wear beautiful precious vintage gemstone jewelry and to this day, i always have her style in mind. These days my favorite materials are gemstones, rubies, green onyx and blue topaz. Their colors and structures inspire me.

Q: Tell me about your tattoos!! do they have special meanings? when did you first get them?
A:My tattoo presents the 4 elements and love: fire, water, earth and air.
I got them when i was 22 and interestingly enough i chose to become an acupuncturist
later on which also works with 5 element theory. I was also a nurse at one time.

Q: Well it definitely sounds like you are fond of needles :D I wish you were around when i was in college. I was terrified of needles but had lots of piercings! What is your own jewelry style?
A: i make about 20 pieces of jewelry daily and i only wear my large silver hoops and a silver round anker necklace my friend nina had made for me :)

Q: Tell me about the adorable kitty in your photo! ..
A: My husband is allergic to cats too but she was just 1 week old when he found her and she would not have made it if he did not take her, plus she tried to walk to him allthough she was too little and he fell in love with her. Surprisingly he is doing fine and never has allergies, but i think it is because of her short hair.
Anyways, we love her way too much.

Artwark's Saturday night style weekly pick summer outfit!

Hey All! I'm so excited about the summer season and the awesome outfits! Decided to start a weekly outfit posting on saturdays, perfect for saturday night styling...to wear out on the town!! The rain has left a balmy, tropical feel, so I thought i would put together a bright, summer outfit...all the clothing is handmade at Etsy! The dress is a gorgeous Coral Grecian Goddess dress, i love how it drapes so nicely! So much easier to wear in the heat and humidity than those clingy fabrics. $53 by ErinLeighheart based in Kansas, one of a kind stunning designs are sold, recently one of her dresses was worn to the MTV awards! Nest Necklace with Apple Green chalcedony is at the top of my wish list right now, so if you want to give me a gift, thats the one!! It reminds me of coral reef or netting by the ocean. To keep the hair off your neck at the beach, is the eyelet headband i have known about mixbaby for a few years...i met her on Ebay and bought some awesome pieces...and lo and behold, she was al Etsy too!! Anyhow, I just love the stark white in contrast to most hair colors. Its crisp and cooling against a hot day. The finishing touch are these great strappy gladiator sandals The straps are a great burnished gold color and the skinny straps bring to mind bamboo reeds and in general, oceanside...not to mention they really complement that necklace quite well!! Oxidation Tutorial~darkening sterling silver

And now, as promised~the Oxidation Tutorial. For awhile, I have been intrigued by the depth and interest of silver, created by adding a hand finished patina. Also known as oxidized, antiqued or darkened silver. At first, I wanted to add a patina to Gold filled material, but honestly, it did not work and was not to my liking. However the same technique worked beautifully on Sterling silver!!

The great thing about this technique is that you can do it with household items. Also it is free of strong, toxic chemicals! Much safer for you and the environment as well. All you will need is you piece of sterling silver, some eggs, a glass jar with a top, a wire 'tie' like the ones at the grocery store, something to boil the eggs, silver polish cloth.

This is the pendant I wanted to oxidize. Its a solid, thick, double sided pendant. So it was a little tricky to get both sides darkened. I actually had to repeat the process a few times to achieve the darkness i wanted. It is engraved with the word HOPE over and over in a lovely script font~ such a powerful word that i wanted it to stand out from the background.

1.) Wash the pendant (or chain, or whatever you are darkening) with a dish liquid. I used Dawn. Be sure to not touch the surface by hand after that as any oils will affect the darkening effect. Dry off with a napkin or cloth (that has not been dried with dryer sheets) Any additional chemical contamination will also affect the darkening.

2.) Hard Boil one or 2 eggs about 10 minutes on high heat.

3.) While the eggs boil, attach the piece to be darkened from the metal tie and figure out how to position it so that it is suspended from the jar. What i did was put the tie through the pendant and then left the tie straight (no bending) then I laid it across the top of the mason jar opening. This way, when you put the top of the lid on, the ends of the wire tie stick out of the edges, but are secure because the cap is on top of it.

4.)Place the eggs (with shell on) in the mason jar and crush them up. Quickly position the tie with the piece you are darkening and cap on the lid. This needs to be done as fast as possible because once the eggs are crushed, it is the sulfur from the eggs that darken the metal. So the more that connects with the silver, the better the color will be.

HINT: Its important to suspend the piece because it will get the most even coating or oxidation since the sulfur from the eggs will travel up. You could also use tupperware or a plastic bag, but i found this method most effective.

5.)After about 20 minutes or up to 24 hours, depending your time constraints, you can take out the piece of silver you are darkening. I waited about one hour. If you want the item darker, repeat the process. This was my first time oxidizing sterling silver and it took 3 repeats for me to acheive the level of darkness i wanted. Please note that the entire piece of silver will be dark, but we are not finished yet!

6.) The last step is really going to make all the difference! After gently rinsing off the silver, take a silver polishing cloth (the kind you can find at walmart: thin sheets like kleenxes) cut the cloth down and gently rub the metal until you get the desired finish. On chains, the result will be dark and shiny. However, if there is depth to the silver, like this one; which has two levels, one surface and then the engraved script, you can get a two toned look. I was going for the two tones with the script being dark and popping out against the bright sterling silver background.
and VOILA!! oxidized pendant!

This procedure also has a great effect on silver with a brushed or textured surface, or with any indentation lines for detail as it will make it pop! The appeal is rugged and natural and has become very popular in today's jewelry trends. You can also use it on other sterling silver objects too, to change up the look.

If you decide you don't like the darkened finish, it IS reversible. Just dip it in EMPIRE'S jewelry cleaner solution for 4 seconds and rinse. Repeat until it is the desired color again. However, don't darken and undarken in a short span of time, leave it for a few weeks and then take off the coloring.

Artisan Vignette WEEkend interview on WEE CREATURES

My dear friend Dana, of the Midnight Orange, makes the most precious little clay sculpts for your wee ones, or your yourself! Titled, 'wee creatures,' you can peruse her Etsy shop for ready made, or custom creatures! Check out the Artwark mascot she made for me, complete with mini jewelry mallet! I love the Dana's work and the story behind her art, so read on for her interview!!

Q: When did you start your line of wee creatures?
A: I gave birth to my first daughter three years ago. Indeed she came out very wee. Oh, you mean the clay ones? It's been almost a year. :)

Q: What inspired you to do them?
A: My daughter really likes little things that she can hold in her hand and take everywhere with her. I saw my options at the stores and wanted to show up the manufactured plastics. Indeed, I think I have!

Q: How do you come up with the cute little stories behind each one?
A: They just come on a whim. It usually stems from their name, and sometimes how I imagine their disposition to be based on how expressive their eyes are, or on their body language. I had an octopus that looked shy so I named her Wee Blushing Bree, and then the story birthed about her inking in front of a cute boy octopus, which made her gasp and then pass bubbles. Who wouldn't blush after that?!

Q: What future do you see with the wee creatures?
A: One that is thriving! Soon I will be introducing a line of Wee Creature magnets, bookmarks, stick puppets, story boards, and a collector's series that will roll out a new piece in the collection each month. There is really no end to where they can go - time limits are my only constraints!

Q: How long do they take to make/process, how do you make them?
A: The actual sculpting usually takes about 40 - 50 minutes depending on detail. Then I glaze them in batches. However, let's not forget to account for photographing them at 5 angles, editing and uploading the photos, creating the listing and writing the description, and then after the sale I box it, wrap it, and take a trip to the post office. So front to back it is much more time consuming than one would think, and in truth I am underselling them.

Q: With a husband, children and full time job, how do you juggle everything and keep up with it all? Clay is very portable -
A: I take it everywhere with me. When I am home with my girls we sculpt clay together and my kids get amazed as wee little eyes are formed and then stare up at them. Sometimes they pick the colors for me (and sometimes I override their decisions!). Also, I get very little sleep. And yet I am still dazzling!

Q: Do you have any advice for new Etsy Sellers or artists?
A: Have foresight and confidence. I find ways to plant seeds in my conversations that will lead to me talking about my work with others. Example: Right now my fingernails are orange with blue rhinestones. People compliment them and I say that it is because my business is called The Midnight Orange. They ask me what it is, and I plug shamelessly from there and leave them with a business card. Always have confidence to talk about your work, and always find ways to talk about it. Whenever possible, have something on you to show them.

Memorial Day snaps and a recipe!

Hope you all had a wonderful Memorial day! We had a 2 day BBQ at the house, and it was a really great time! Day one was Thai Chicken wings and regular BBQ with sides and yesterday was chicken kebabs and Thai beef on a stick with mango salsa, mediterranean salad and mango salsa.

We also had a festive Fruit salad bowl for dessert! Heres a shot of the spread and a quick recipe for the salad that you can use in your summer bbq's this year!!

Melon Bowl Salad
ingredients:
1 very sweet watermelon. Knock on the shell to hear for water. The more water, the sweeter the melon!
1 fresh mango. Squeeze to test it, it should be firm, for tartness. For a sweeter flavor, you will want a squishy mango
about 10 strawberries
1 ripe and sweet banana

Preparation: You will need to cut each fruit in a specific way to get the look of this bowl. Cut the Watermelon in half and use a melon baller to scoop out watermelon. Scoop in rows and then use a large spoon to take out the 'leftover' melone. Set the leftover aside. After you have completed scooping, pour the juice aside and use a large spoon to clean out all the pink remnant watermelon, revealing a whitish green rind. This will be your melon bowl.

Carefully peel the mango with a paring knife and then dice into small cube shaped pieces. Dice one banana. Remove greens from strawberries, wash and then slice once for a 'heart' shaped piece.

Last is the arrangement of the fruit. If you like the way mine looks, layer first the watermelon, sprinkle with mango and banana and arrange the strawberries on top as a garnish look. If you prefer to mix all the fruit, carefully do so using only your hands to avoid fruit breakage. VOILA! Fruit bowl!!

I recently joined a funky new website/online networking site through an invite from my brother! I hope that you will join me there! Its www.twitter.com and you can find and add me (artwark) Its basically a site that gives updates throughout the day, but the best part is, there are no email notifications, so you have to log into your twitter account, to see the updates. If you send me an invitation, i will follow you on twitter also! Usually i put updates just in general whats going on in life, but i also put up ebay and etsy information sometimes too!!

In other news, things have been crazy busy here at Artwark lately!! So let me fill you in :D My prep class for the LSATS went down the toilet for a little while, after my laptop crisis...I ended up getting a new laptop and was able to convince the every so nice intructors at Kaplan to let me take their class again for free!! Woohoo!! So i will go to all the classes a second time and there will be no real excuse for not taking the exam in Sept. LSAT is the exam you have to take to get into Law School...yup, quite different from my current gig as Jewelry conoissoir, however I intend to tackle law school as a 'project' and keep making jewelry too!!

Mother's day on a small budget

Hey there!! Since mother's Day is quickly coming, I thought of some quick and easy ideas to make her day special affordably. Now, we all know that Mom is the Most important (or one of them) in our world. So, when it comes to a special day for her, going 'cheap' is not something that we want to do. However, it is also true that many of us are trying to pinch our pennies these days. And, Moms certainly do love anything we muster up for her. Still, I think it is spending time with Mom that she appreciates the most, combine it with an affordable gift and you are good to go.

Here are some ideas:

1) Make Mom a delicious Home cooked meal, maybe her favorite dish (ask grandma for a recipe) and serve it up in style. Use the 'good' China, or fancy glasses along with Fresh flowers in a vase. Simply cut Bright Flowers from the Garden at a slant. Fill a vase or a tall narrow glass with water and there you go. To adorn a tall glass, fill the bottom with small washed stones for a natural look or marbles. You will save money on overpriced restaurant food and skip the long waiting list. This allows more time with Mom.

2) Ask Mom what she really wants this year. Tell her to go big. Have all siblings and family pitch in for that one item. Sometimes, when you add up all the little things, knick knacks and extras we give Mom on Mother's day, it really adds up to a large sum, so stick to one big treasure, like a TV, new Cell Phone, Maybe a gift certificate for a Massage or Manicure (it all depends on everyone's budgets)

3) Go and spend time with Mom. Its free! And probably what she wants more than any gift. Now, don't go empty handed, bake cookies, bring flowers (idea above in #1 for Free flowers) Or Pick her up and go to a movie that she wants to see. Either way, divulge her in something she wants. Is Mom always forgetting to take care of herself? If you want to splurge, make Appointments for the both of you to get a new spring Hairdo.

4)Mom Loves memories. Take a photo or photos and put them in a frame for her. My brother did this simple gesture a few years ago and she loved it. You can even find nicer frames at the $1 store believe it or not. Toss the original box and put it in a nice gift bag ready with a photo or photos inside.

5) If all else fails, get a card, not just any card. Many Drug stores and 7-11 stores have Giant Mothers day cards. They are really special because, well they are just so darn HUGE they are a surprise and would put a smile on anyone's face :D Have everyone sign the card and put it somewhere that Mom is sure to see....

Due to my laptop crashing, i haven't been able to post anything for a while. I hope you are enjoying the beautiful spring time! I have be learning how to multi-task this week by filling mothers day orders, studying, class and hanging out with my Friend Sheila! We have been pals since college in 2003 and she now lives in Texas. So she made the looong hike out to NY to spend a springy week with me.

One of the highlights of our week was a visit to the Strong Memorial National Museum of play. Although the website has a lot of information, it doesn't capture the actual place so well. Located in Rochester, NY and while it was made for children, It really is geared towards generation y-ers like Sheila and I. We spent 2 hours there on saturday evening, forgetting how chilly it was outside, and immersing our kid-like side into the Berenstain Bear village, Toy Hall of Fame and Butterfly Conservatory! With over 800 Butterflies and tropical plants and vines, its a real treat and lovely additional to the museum itself.

A giant Mr. Potato Head, Giant's game room and HIstory of CHildren's books were also fun, where we played a giant sized connect four. A miniature kids Wegmans grocery store was also play-able. We watched sesame street on the big screen and then Sheila bought us both goodies from the flashy, museum gift shop. I would highly recommend a visit to ths Museum if you are ever in the area...click on today's post for a link to the museum....

MOVIE reviews from our week:
the Movie Wall-E gets two thumbs up from us, combining cuddly looking robots with a 'green' agenda. Just released, Marley and Me: another 2 thumbs up for touching and sweet family movie type. On the other hand PUMPKIN and RACHEL GETTING MARRIED were on the NOT to watch list. Strange, disconnected and overall odd movies. On the big screen GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST: was also pretty good, funny and light hearted.

Today is the last day of our reunion and we are off to treat ourselves to swedish massages and manicures!!! Hope you are having a great day...and remember to STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES!!

COLD REMEDIES: Secret potion Recipe

Good morning everyone :) Like many of you, I have finally caught a cold! Its day 3 and I have lots to do...my solution: Potion time! Since I was a child My Mother, a Physician urged me to use alternative/herbal solutions unless there is infection involved (at which time allopathic medicine is a must-meaning a trip to the Dr. or pharmacy) anyhow, she always made me a hot drink which we liked to call Ma's secret 'potion' :D Over the last few years, now that im the ripe old age of 27, I have added some of my own ingredients...This works REALLY well, to clear nasal passages, free post nasal drip ,etc. Not pretty, but helpful. So here it is:

Combine 5 cups of water, 1/2 cinnamon STICK, 4 whole cloves, 1/4 tsp ginger powder, 1/4 tsp cayenne chilli pepper (less if you cannot tolerate spicy) 3 whole cardamon~ in a small saucpan/pot with long handle. Bring to a boil. At boiling point, remove from heat and pour into a cup, straining out the spices, etc. Add 1 tsp. honey and stir in.

DRINK UP!!

This is quite tasty with a mildly sweet/spicy flavor. Serves 2 or 3.

hey all! happy humpday! Its the middle of the week and only and few more to go until the weekend woohoo!! Tonight my brother is coming back from a 3 weeks trip to Asia..Bangladesh and All over China as well.

I'm still sleepy and i think it's due to a great massage i got yesterday! I used to work at a wellness center for 2 years before my gig now as a artiste...Still close with the lovely ladies over at Health IN Harmony center, rochester NY. Over the years, Dr. Schliff, Jackie, and Emily have become like family!...funny thing...they are all related to each other..so they are family..literally! (to each other lol) Anyhow, I just thought i would share some love and post some of their info here today of the dynamic duo of sisters, as well as the entire extended staff of chiropracters, biofeedback therapist, and numerous other members of the team!

Dr. Schliff owns the business and is a lisenced Chiropractor, Homeopathic Doctor and healer in many ways. I have gone to her several times over the years for Cranio-sacral, which is like a slow adjustment through a massage like technique..she rocks!
On the homeopathic side, she was trained in Toronto, Canada and can diagnose many ailments as well as giving a remedy immediately at the time of your appointment. This is so helpful and has helped me personally, many , many times while i worked there as well as after. Cold laser therapy is another great treatment at the office for injuries that literally makes pain vanish after a few treatments. All in all, if you have back pain, or any ailment that you prefer going to a natural doctor for, this is the place!

Jackie is the Massage Therapist and works wonders on the muscles! I have referred MANY people to her, and it's kind of a ritual for my Mom and I to get our muscles fixed by her almost every week! The room is cute and serene and the massages are tuned in to your specific needs..so its really perfect! A hot towel, choice of oil or cream, and aromatherapy to treat your body and soul are just a few additional treats that you will enjoy during your visit. For the shy, you can leave your top on or off during the appointment as well, so everything is really peronalized and tuned it to your specific needs.

Hey everyone! I am super excited to be on papernstitch.com for the month! This awesome website is like an online art exhibition with photos, bio and links to artists homepages. In other news, I hope you have been having a wonderful weekend! I spent a lot of time with family and friends and then made a midnight banana bread! In the midst of studying (I am taking a review course for the LSATS to get into Law school) I was talking about saving the waay overripe bananas for a while, and suddenly it seemed time! We ate hot Banana bread at 2 in the morning ala carte topped with a shaving of vanilla ice cream FUN!

Here is my recipe. This is my healthy Banana bread using whole wheat flour and less sugar. If you want a more rich version, substitute in white flour and double the sugar. Chocolate chips are also a lovely addition if you like. This recipe is also banana heavy to get your fruit intake of the day, you can divide it in half for a more cake like consistency, although i find more bananas, much tastier!

INGREDIENTS:
7 or 8 Ripe bananas, mashed
1 1/2 Cup Whole wheat Flour (a light brown color)
1/2 Cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/2 Cup walnuts, chopped
A pinch of salt
4 tbsp Butter
1 tsp Vanilla extract
1 Tsp Baking soda

METHOD:
Mash the bananas and add in the melted butter, sugar and salt. A mixer is not needed in this recipe, but i would recomment a masher, like the ones used for mashing potatoes (handheld) Slowly add in the flour while mashing all the while. Add in vanilla, soda and salt, by sprinkling evenly over the the mixture and continue to mash.

COOK TIME:
Use butter to gently grease a 4" X 8" loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for one hour. Be sure to check on it after 20 minutes and then near the last 10 minutes. To check done-ness, insert a knife into the center of the bread, when it comes out almost clean, its ready!!

SERVE: sliced hot, with shavings of natural Vanilla Ice cream. The sugar in the Ice cream is perfect and you can control how much of it you are eating!

Perfect springtime snack, and a great way to get the kids eating some fruits!

Hey all! So, here is my mini faves list in the left column photos.

#1) The perfect spring Sandals! I love the cool silver metallic and teeny crystals in the these sandals. The heels are wedge and low so they are easy to wear...I'm a big fan of comfort and style together. They will be in AVON catalogs next month. If you would like a pair, let me know! #2) Buxom Lips Lip Plumper! Ok, so this particular item is ALWAYS in my purse and on my nightstand, BUT, last week when i went to Sephora to restock, I found out they have a share-worthy spring item! You get 2 lip glosses together that can be stored in a cool drawer-pull box. By Bare escentuals, they are paraben and sulfate free (harsh chemicals are NOT the best things to put on your mouth every day, so these glosses make my A+ list) The combo of BRANDI and SUGAR is perfect for any occassion, with a sheer Maroon/plummy color (brandi) and icy caramel (sugar). I have medium/olive skintone but I think these are great for any skin tones! When you apply the gloss, it has a crazy cooling sensation...kissy kissy!

#3) Singin' In the rain necklace (by Artwark) Ok, so i know this is the faves list, but I love the outcome of this necklace so much i had to share! I have just a few, but the detailed silver plated vintage oxidized umbrella is too cute! And perfect this rainy season! Paired with a striking Grade A mystic topaz. The chubby little briolette is shaped like a plump rain drop and has a pinkish heart ringed in green. The back has a mystic coating so that when it moves, there is an array of colors like the reflections of a water drop! Handwired right on top of the umbrella so it looks like it just plopped onto the umbrella!!

#4) I call this the 'spring mermaid dress' Its from Cache. Now, for us hourglass ladies, normally a snug dress like this would be not so cute...but be not alarmed! It is stunning on! The interesting texture 'scaling' minimizes any slight body bumps that may or not exist and the low neckline and mid-length keep every thing in proportion. The color is gorgeous and reminds me of the tropics...or peacock feathers. 2 wonderful images. Keep in mind the price tag, $178 is not too bad, but it probably best for the bolder, who can use this one for various occassions: wedding, evening dress, etc. Also, i think any body shape can pull this one off. its THAT good.

In other news, I just had to share an interesting find I stumbled onto this week. I am totally a HUGE fan of Etsy, as many of us are. For those that don't know yet, Etsy.com is a wonderful website that is ALL HANDMADE. Meaning that thousands and thousands of artisans each have a little shop there. You can find just about anything at Etsy made by hand. I am a huge fan of making, buying and wearing jewelry. So I am constantly researching, looking at new and interesting designs and buying many as well for my own wearing.

Celeste Christie has several running projects, one being her brand new Etsy shop with coin necklaces. She uses REAL quarters pave'd with gemstones! This Missippi Quarter is so pretty with pave on the flowers. Pave is a process of setting stones into metal. Very popular in today's 'bling' world, but rarely found on Etsy. I love how she combines such a unique look with a trendy bling factor. Not to mention that each quarter is recycled, so its quite the genius tactic (and I bet its great to not have to go too far to restock on 'supplies' just reach into that purse!!)

Another interesting aspect of her shop is the Button Collection. Here, she beautifully pave's the quarter and then spends it in a vendings machine!! The coin is photographed and set into a button setting, which can then be worn, brooch style. Nifty!

Such a neat idea, but i must admit, I am a bit jealous of the vending machine owners, or the lady at the bank that stumbles across the gorgeous quarters, and well, just might have to pocket it for their own collection!

Sellers tips!

I recently had someone ask me for some tips on how to price and successfully sell things online as a side/hobby, so here are a few pointers:

1) Keep your overheard low and do not spend more than your means when you are starting out. Be cautious to monitor what sells and what does not. Improve the things that DO sell rather than wasting energy on those that don't. Every idea won't be popular.

2)Spend money on the ESSENTIALS, like a great laptop and camera, which you will use everyday to market your items. Tools and a decent studio setup are important as well. Over time, branding items like stickers, print and business cards

3) Have a shipping plan. Buy necessities in bulk, at wholesale prices: boxes, business cards, bubble mailers and address stamps or stickers. Think of how you want your business 'face' to appear and do so affordably.

4)Make a guinea pig on designs and see how it sells. This helps you choose what to stock always and what to offer as a special or one of a kind.

3) Have a shop logo, motto, and design in mind and act on it as you can! It can take time for things to come together, but always keep at it. If you need to change your logo, makeover your business look, learn to let go in order to improve when needed.

4) Packaging your goods is key for getting repeat customers, play around with your ideas. See what method works for you in terms of shipping services, shipping supplies and cost to ship. So many business use similar looking packing, its important to come up with a uniqueness to stand apart.

5) This may seem obvious, but always advertise! Keep your business cards on hand and wear your designs! Gifting is a great idea too for family and friends to become your best marketers. Getting a bag or car decal with a website is a great non verbal ad as well if you are on the shy side. If you are in a trendy area, get used to leaving cards at cafes, etc.

6)Be safe. Never put your home address or personal information 'out there' keep the business as a business.

5) Always leave room to change! This goes for pricing, packaging and all else.

Hi there everyone!! Happy Almost Valentines day! Between last weekend's show and a Wedding this saturday (and orders all week) this is my first chance to finally sit down and give you some fun updates... 1) My show last week 2)V-day tips

Well last Saturday was my Valentines show in Buffalo, NY at the Indie Market...a monthly Market that is all handmade...really fun! So i decorated my table and had a blast the whole day! Check out Amanda and Danielle here! They totally made my day with their enthusiasm...i think the first words i heard was..."OHMYGOD...THIS IS THE SHOP I TOLD YOU ABOUT...I SAW IT ONLINE!" and i was so excited to hear that...i wanted to learn about them too :) Amanda and Danielle both live and work in Buffalo, NY. They both have really distinct styles and love cats. Danielle loves tattoos and has several. Amanda is shown here (left) wearing my Sterling Silver disc and garnet necklace...Hey Ladies!! hope you see this!

The market went really well and there was someone on a traditional loom, as well as other jewelers, clothiers (<
I met many interesting customers, each with their own story...and hopefully some of us will be able to continue getting to know each other in the future. Its just so wonderful to see customers in person every once in a blue!! Read on for some fun Vday tips!

2) V-DAY TIPS: Recession or not, I have always been a fan of saving money, while having fun! Valentines day is tomorrow and with dinners, parties, etc...here are some great ways to save!!
1) Use what you HAVE. at my V-day show, I only spent $4 on decorating! See the photo at the top left column. I used a Sari that my mom had as a table cloth (indian cloth) lights from college...adjustable lamps, an old heart shaped chocolate box in red...bottom and lid were each a display. My money was spent at the $1 store on: confetti (which i saved after using and am re-using now) and $3 on bags of heart shaped chocolates to snack on, a sweet treat for customers. In the same way you can buy a little and be creative with what you HAVE.

For example: for a hot outfit: spice up a red or white tank top with fabric paint and glitter.

For decorating: use red paper and glitter to MAKE confetti. Leftover bday balloons in any pink/red/white/peach tones

Make HIM a surprise dinner: guys won't be mad if you 'forget' all the v-day decorations! A low key meal that he likes is more than enough...want to splurge? Go Out to dinner!

Use different colored feathers to create a 'trail' to a certain part of your place plus glitter. (bagged feathers are sexy, and sold at craft stores for a few bucks)

In other news, this weekend was just great! Friday i spent some much needed down time with a group of girlfriends. Since I'm Bengali, the group is a great mix of Pakistani girls plus a few one-ers, me, the Bengali, and an Egyptian girl. It was a chilled out evening at our local Cafe downtown and we definitely chatted the night away.

Saturday night was my very close friend's bachelorette partay! So after finishing orders and mailouts at 2 pm, i got a little sleep and then went to join the ladies. The bride to be, KOONS and I go waaaay back to the 7th grade! She is getting married this Valentines day (too cute) so it was really nice seeing her...we went cosmic bowling...where the light go out, replaced by strobes and music...tres fun. Finished off with the popular Garbage plate dinner...believe it or not, in our town, the Garbage plates are SO popular, that in some HOTS/Grill restaurants, it the main dish! Think choice of meat plus toppings like fries, and mac salad....

lots of fun but very little sleep for me this weekend :D I ended up sleeping the day away today, losing work time, but just this once, it was worth it :)Hope that you are also having a fabulous weekend! What did you do??

Good evening all...as promised Today's post is the HOT LIST with some of my fave artists and pieces on Etsy :) Check out the column on the left for links and photos of these goodies :)

1) THE MIDNIGHT ORANGE: I met Dana, designer and owner at a recent show in Buffalo NY. Dana is super soulful and full of life...not to mention creative! Quirkily cool, I love the ideal! Most of her items are made from recycled match boxes...a unique object of obsession :) My favorite is this gorgeous Miniature Butterfly dresser to house essential tinies like paper clips. The teeniest of knobs on the front complete the look...each drawer...a recycled matchbox! One of the cooler ways to go green in my opinion!

2) Amrita Design: Sarita is such a talented artist with delicate, intricate wire workings and beautiful stone and color picks! I absolutely adore these CHANDRA EARRINGS made from 14K Gold fill and gorgeous Moonstone. Aside from being totally talented, Sarita is such a pleasure to communicate with as well!

3)the SILVER DOG has gorgeous, fun designs using bright colors and the prettiest of flowers in assymetric necklace designs. Pricing is affordable too so you don't have to feel guilty about some much needed V-day shopping :) Pop in and Say hello to Erin..she is friendly and quick to reply to any messages!

4) Michelle Chang jewelry entails cleancut & organic handworked jewelry in an array of silver gold and diamonds! From branches to hearts to dainty sharks teeth and kitties, the blend of cutting edge rock-vibe gets a dose of sweetness! I can't get over the cuteness of these sterling baby skulls with diamond eyes!

5) For cool, nature style apparel for men and women, a visit to STEVESTER is definitely a must! Every item is screen printed on comfy cotton. Totes, and hoodies are available as well as tees. At the moment, I am anxiously awaiting my branching out tunic! I love the simple cool colors and the fact that i can wear it over a tee with leggings while its cold and with jeans in the summer...did i mention there are POCKETS on the front!!! Super fast replies to questions are also a plus at Stevester, a noticeably popular site by the looks of sales :)

New Valentines necklaces!

Hey All! Hope your week is going fabulously! Other than the frigid temperature in NY (its currently a whopping 5 degrees brrrrrr) things are lookin good! Its also forcing me to stay indoors where I have been laboring over new and exciting Valentine's-esque necklaces..in the left column, are some of my ONE OF A KIND necklaces that are ONLY available until this sunday. They are being auctioned at my ebay shop. To bid, just click on the photos and follow through on ebay. Once these are gone, they are gone forever!

My favorite love necklace is available for purchase...this victorian style HEARTS DESIRE/BLEEDING HEART necklace for the lover or the broken hearted. Anyone will love this...i have been wearing mine since i made it and have receive many compliments. Some of the parts are Vintaj, the bronzed natural brass company. A very popular look right now for it's modern edge on old victorian style jewelry. I tried it before and didn't like it. Click on the post title to get your bids in on this beauty!

As for Vintaj, after some coaxing by my local bead supplier, I tried it again and behold! It actually can be very pretty indeed. For this particular piece, I wanted to use some unusual combination and here it is in genuine garnet and swarovski pearls, taking it from ordinary to luxurious! DID ARTWARK DISAPPEAR? IM BA-ACK!!

Greetings everyone! I hope that you have all been having a wonderful new year....I have so much to update you on, so I will do my best in this posting...to begin you are probably wondering what happened with the custom photo pendant necklace giveaway and where i have been...as for the giveaway, as you read in the contest rules, i did require that at least 24 votes come in, and sadly, i only received 13 :( So I have decided that I will now be doing one giveaway per month. The necklace contest will continue to run until January 21st so be sure to vote to win if you are interested...its in the Dec 21 post.

As for where i have been...I had to get some things done in NYC SOOOoooo, we took a little minid vacation to the BIG APPLE!! It was tres fabulous!! And I went to see many sites with the family in a short amount of time. One of the highlights of the trip was a buying excursion that was SO spontaneous! The taxi dropped us off at the wrong block for my brother's meeting with a client of his and as we walked towards that office...TRUE destiny took precedent placing me directly in front of one of NYC's premier Gemstone wholesale shops. It was so incredible!! I will post some photos as soon as I can figure out how to get them off my cell phone!!

Anyhow, I am fully stocked up on GRADE A gemstones is favorites like Smoky topaz, turquoise, garnet, citrine as well as stone horn/tusk charms. You will be seeing lots of new fabulous pieces in the upcoming weeks in time for VALENTINES day! And there will be a new section in my Etsy shop for VALENTINES pieces as well in case you are looking for a LOVEY type gift :)

I am just thrilled with my trip to NYC and loving the look of dark brass paired with the many gemstone briolettes i bought!! So watch for some one of a kinders on Etsy as well as ebay auctions. Also keep in mind that I'm more than happy to do one of a kind custom orders for your special someone...Mom, sis, wife or anyone.

LAST agenda of the day: Some of you mentioned you like COWBOY/turquoise styles...well its your lucky day...I will be making some funky western themed necklaces and earrings using S.T.U.N.N.I.N.G turquoise tears in many sizes and finishes....lots of love to all!!

HAPPY NEW YEARS everyone!! I hope your evening was a blast :) To start the year fresh! I have ALWAYS loved the YEARS best products lists so I thought I would make one for us to share and read here at the blog :) Here is a list of my favorite beauty products this year...please add you own favorites my clicking on the comments link under this post and writing your own faves! Although my usual regimen is a little powder and eyeliner, here is a list of every day fave list of great products, but easy on the wallet. After working In cosmetics/skincare for 4 years during college, I can really tell you that its not the brand that proves worth but the item itself!!

1) Fave Facewash: Neutrogena Oil Free Grapfruit wash~This stuff works really nicely and smells fantastic! The "blast" of citrus truly wakes you up & energizes first thing in the morning!!

2) Acne Fighter: Benziclene: This creme/gel works REALLY fast and has cleared up my skin within DAYS...I'm talking serious blemish fighter!! I just put some on before bed at night (prescription only)

3) Shampoo/Conditioner: Tea Tree Shampoo! Any brand is fine, Paul Mitchell is best..its so invigorating and makes the whole scalp tingle!! AVON Olive oil hair mask....smells great and it SUPER conditioning! Also VO5 Moisture Milk in strawberries and creme or Vanilla Mint tea clarifying... they smell like heavan and work great!

4) Hair Product: AVON Mousse: for lots of volume! Paul Mitchell: Skinny Serum: for shine and control!

5) Other hair aid: A) Turbie twist: Rolls up the hair and dries it quickly so your clothes never gets wet from long hair B) Round brush~ created lots of movement and body in layered hair

6) Fave eyeliner: Lava Gloss (urban Decay) super creamy and shiny eyeliner for inside lining, AVON metallics liquid liner in Black for a stunning Cat eye look (and its only $3)

7) Deodorant: Good ol' Secret solid invisible stick

8) Bodywash: Dove...it cleans and adds moisture

9) Skincare: OILS!! Baby oil with a little sugar mixed in beats all those expensive scrubs!!

10) At home face scrub: Mixing Yogurt, honey and a little crushed oatmeal..moisturizes, soothes and scrubs away dead skin

11)Nailcare~i use my hands for work all the time and this combination is fantastic! It makes my at home manis last a week... Diamond Nail files (strong and lasting)4 sided buffer from the $1 store. Sephora cuticle trimmer in the small size, Borghese Magnetico Base coat~ OPI, ESSIE, Sephora or Sally Hansen Nail color (2 coats) Seche Vite dry fast top coat. This combination of products never fails me! Tip: thin layers of polish, put a line of topcoat over the edge of the nail to last longer. VOILA!!

12) Best face makeup: Physicians Formula Minerals comes in a compact with a small mirror inside and a brush to apply...easy coverage and convenient

13) Blush: MARK peach blush

14) Lips: Im a fan of lip plumpers! Buxom Lips by Bare escentuals has pretty color, CLINIQUE full potential is really glossy and moisturizing while the BALM works very quickly and smells fantastic with dessert like flavors!

15) Best beauty aid: Shiseido Eyelash curler...this one tool can make you go from looking tired and sleepy to awake and cute! I have used this on and off since High school.

WHAT'S IN MY PURSE AT ALL TIMES?? Mineral Powder, Lip Gloss, Black Eyeliner and Lash Curler. Quick and enough for ANY occassion...

Upon the New Year

Hi all!! Its high time to get our minds working! In the midst of jewelry shopping at Artwark, I hope that you all read about the backgrounds to each of my pieces. The meanings of them. I recently had a beautiful customer, Sharon email me, who was very pleased with her purchase The Flying Free Bird necklace...based on the quote "when one door closes, another always opens." So i wanted to convey some food for thought on the upcoming year today...

We are on the brink of the new year...with the new Inauguration fast approaching, I have been anticipating a fantastic future for our country in the upcoming years....this in mind, it is clearly time to compose a new Years Resolution!!

What are you thinking of resolving?? This year, perhaps we should all let go of the superficial resolutions: losing those 5 pounds or excelling materialistically. Perhaps this year, we should look into what is truly important: helping others, doing a good deed each day or quietly acting out kindly, standing up for someone less fortunate without the need for a pat on the back or credit.

In light of a good national future, let's improve the 'standard of life' in a more organic way. Helping people, taking care of the environment or doing something that is a soulful resolution.

In Indian culture, the body is considered a mask, that without proper cleansing, and manipulation is just a pile of skin and stink (sorry if this is disturbing, it is still the Truth) In comparison The soul is always clean, intangible, and perfect, if the person lets it be so. If not, if can be a foul thing as well. In Indian culture there is a focus on perfecting sould rather than the outer self. Karma (a popular theme you may see in my pieces) teaches "what goes around comes around" with the importance of how we treat other people. And if we give out goodness, it will come back to us also...food for thought...
